The World Cup Goes to Russia Posted on 9th February 20189th February 2018 by FOOTBALL THEMED CORPORATE EVENTS The eyes of the World will be firmly on Russia from June 14th this year for one glorious month of football! It’s their first time hosting the World Cup and footballing fans are expected to arrive in their millions. England fans are hoping for a much better outing than the last World Cup in Brazil back in 2014 where Roys’ Boys crumbled during the group stages after defeats to Italy and Uruguay. It was the first time they have been knocked out in the group stages since 1958 and the first time they have been eliminated after just two matches. However, with a promising qualification and plenty of talented youth in the side the fans are feeling more optimistic than in recent years. It was a fantastic year for German fans as their national side beat Argentina in a thrilling final to reign champions of the World for an impressive 4th time. Fans will be in for a treat if this year’s World Cup serves up a similar feast of football – and with 32 teams from around the continent, including tournament debutants Iceland and Panama, making their first appearance in the competition ever, who would bet against the prospect of a fantastic tournament! Brazil will be going for a record of 6 titles after hosting the 2014 World Cup but humiliatingly crashing out in the quarter finals after a 7-1 defeat to the eventual tournament winners Germany. With a sumptuous summer of football in store, why not host your own football themed corporate event with each team representing one of the participating countries?
