Baking Team Building Event at The Runnymede on Thames for Bayer The Client Bayer is a German multinational pharmaceutical and life sciences company and one of the world’s largest pharmaceutical companies. They address some of the most pressing global issues by developing innovative new scientific solutions in the areas of consumer health, pharmaceuticals, animal health and agriculture. The Bayer Group has a 150 year history and comprises 420 consolidated companies in 90 companies throughout the world. The Bayer brand stands for competence, quality and trust, all important attributes for being successful in our corporate baking team challenge. The Brief The client wanted a team building event for 18 staff from their pensions department that would bring the group together as a team and embrace the innovation and passion that the company is known for. The Runnymede on Thames was selected as the perfect venue and the corporate baking event voted by the staff as the top option from the choice of three popular team challenges. Their passion for science led them to mix ingredients even on their day off! Gable Events liaised closely with The Runnymede on Thames conference team to ensure the Grand Union Suite was laid out in a suitable way for the mobile ovens, ingredients and equipment we brought on to site. With a quick transformation of the room from the morning meeting whilst the group was at lunch, our team was ready to see if the participants could recreate some of the popular and delicious treats as seen on the popular ‘Bake Off’ TV series. The Bayer staff more than stepped up to the challenge with some outstanding bakes. The Event As part of the baking team challenge the three teams had to complete three different tasks of varying difficulty. The first task was to recreate a simple biscuit recipe for team members to gain confidence, get to know the rest of the team and learn how best to utilise each other’s skills. The second task was more technical requiring concentration, teamwork, problem solving, time management and organisation skills to achieve the best results. Although there were different opinions on the choice of flavour, teams talked through their options and created the most delicious French macarons. The aim of the last baking team challenge was to combine the culinary skills and knowledge gained earlier with the innovative ideas of the group to create a cake masterpiece. All of the teams completed each task to the highest standards and the end results were truly impressive! There was nothing nicer at the end of this corporate baking team challenge than for the group to enjoy the fruits of their labours together with afternoon tea overlooking the River Thames at the lovely Runnymede Hotel.
