Krypton Maze Corporate Team Building Event in York for FMB The Client The Federation of Master Builders (FMB) is the largest trade association in the UK construction industry, representing thousands of firms in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Established in 1941 to protect the interests of small and medium-sized (SME) construction firms, the FMB is independent and non-profit making, lobbying for members’ interests at both the national and local level. The Brief FMB is a regular client of Gable Events having previously booked pub games and a traditional treasure hunt to coincide with their annual staff conference. On this occasion, the client was again looking for a corporate team building event that would complement their staff conference being held at the Principal York Hotel. The activities were to include an evening event after a day of meetings and dinner with a full morning of team building activities the following day. Gable Events proposed a race night for the evening as this would provide relaxed entertainment with a competitive atmosphere. A Krypton Maze was selected for the morning activity to focus more on corporate team building through a variety of fun tasks that promise ‘something for everyone’. The Venue The Principal York, close to the train station, is the perfect base from which to discover the historic city of York. Award-winning interior architects Goddard Littlefair have refurbished and restored the hotel’s rooms and public spaces to create 155 elegant, comfortable bedrooms and suites in balanced, neutral tones that offer more than just a place to sleep. The venue boasts an impressive 11 meeting rooms with flexible configurations. The Oak Room was chosen as the location for the race night and krypton maze for its perfect size and attractive decor. The Event After an evening of race night fun, the 55 delegates joined Gable Events bright and early to take part in their krypton maze corporate team building event in York. As Gable Events had worked at the Principal York before, we were able to select the outdoor and indoor games best suited to the event spaces whilst testing the client’s skills in communication, problem solving, time keeping and teamwork. The delegates were split into six teams to take part in the head-to-head competition where they would be scored out of 10 based on their success on nine different activities. Each team was given a set of themed hats, putting the emphasis on team spirit and keeping the event light hearted. As the activities got underway, the excitement built and the target golf shone through as the most popular game with teams given the task of chipping balls into an assortment of targets worth differing points based on their difficulty. Axe throwing, remote control cars and Nordic skis were also a hit in the morning sunshine. The competition ran for two and a half hours before all the teams came together for the rocket launch finale. The rockets had been scored based on design and creativity and now was the time to put the designs to the test and see which rocket would fly the furthest. A highest score of 9 was enough to clinch victory for the ‘Badly Behaved’ team to round off a highly successful krypton maze corporate team building event in York that was enjoyed by all!
