The Brief

Audible UK were looking for a professional events company to organise a fun corporate team building event at a venue within zones 1-2 in London for 70 staff at their annual summer party. After looking through Gable Events website containing a huge portfolio of team building activities and talking through the options, Audible UK decided on a soapbox derby. Gable Events recommended Mudchute Park & Farm in the Isle of Dogs as the ideal London corporate events venue within easy reach of the client’s offices.

The Venue

Set in 32 acres of countryside in the heart of East London on the Isle of Dogs, Mudchute Park and Farm is a community charity with a working farm, stables, children’s nursery and a wide range of educational activities that are open and free to the public.

The venue also accommodates private corporate functions and team building events. With a sought-after combination of open green areas with a degree of privacy it served as the perfect space for the Audible UK London soapbox derby corporate event.

The Event

The client arrived by coach at Mudchute Park & Farm on a very hot summer’s day full of excitement and anticipation for the afternoon’s activity. The Gable Events event manager split the 70 guests in to seven teams and set them the task of designing and decorating the pedal karts provided ready to take part in the wacky races at the end of the event. The teams worked tirelessly and tested their skills in time management, problem solving, leadership and effective use of resources to assemble their creations before being judged in the grand parade of karts.

With the design and judging stages complete, it was down to the racing! Each team took part in a 10-minute race, with compulsory driver changes every two laps and an authentic F1 style pit stop challenge where teams had to change the kart wheels as quickly and efficiently as possible ensuring that everyone got involved.

Gable Events professional compere and uniformed event marshals ensured the event ran to time and a lively buzz was created by the running commentary. The race track was themed and decorated with cones and flags and team gazebos provided to protect the client from the scorching sun during the build phase. No detail was missed in the event planning with Gable Events office staff liaising with Mudchute to book the most appropriate event space and arranging that the grass be cut short for the best in racing action! Another hugely successful soapbox derby team building event in London!
